The Cozy RV - Warm And Inviting, It Isn't Just Lighting

Really Comfortable And Cozy!
    I have written quite a few articles about 12 Volt RV lighting. From replacing existing bulbs to modifying existing fluorescent fixtures to have dual LED/Fluorescent light sources to choosing the right color temperature for you. I haven't done much about my 12 Volt lighting in a long while. Why? Well, because it just works and hasn't given me any trouble at all. Still doesn't. Yesterday, I was in the RV just relaxing at night and noticed just how inviting and cozy it was with the glow from the lights illuminating the interior. It's one of the things that makes an RV feel like home. I'm always working on something, and sometimes we all need to just step back and enjoy the RV. After all, the "R" in RV does stand for Recreational!

Bathroom And Shower
What makes an RV more than just transport and a home base for camping or adventures on the Highway? I'll wager that answer is different for various people but I can hazard a guess about a few of them. Your order may vary, but likely they will all be in the top 10.

1. A Bathroom. Yup, having, umm, facilities on-board goes a long way to making your adventures more civilized.
2. A Shower. Few things can be as wonderful as a hot shower where you wouldn't normally have access to one. (of course Hot Water is also covered by this one!)
3. A Real Bed. Sure beats sleeping on the ground!

4. Electricity. This is a broad topic that covers so many points...Entertainment, Light, Heat, your Fridge. 'nuff said.
5. Heat. A warm cozy atmosphere when it's cold outside. Awesome.
6. A Roof. yes, rain can be a drag when you camp. Not in an RV. Priceless.


That's Entertaining!
7. A Kitchen. Being able to cook like you do at home without hanging pots over a roaring fire ....nice!  Coffee! Let's not forget about the ease of washing up afterwards.
8. A Refrigerator. Being able to store/freeze fresh food for extended periods opens up a whole new world.
9. Air Conditioning. Not always necessary, but when it is..a God-send!
10. Our own..."Stuff!"
11. The ability to kick back and just relax.




OK, that's 11 (Mine goes to 11!) ..but there are easily MANY others. Face it...we all like some degree of comfort when we travel. RV's allow us to simply take it with us. When you park, it's there for you. Always at the ready (If you keep everything maintained, that is!).

    I agree wholeheartedly. I sometimes have to take my little dog out at night and I notice so many of the RVs have their overhead lights on and how cold and uninviting they are and if the windows are dirty, they look really bad. We use small lamps at night that does give our trailer a "homey" feeling rather than the harsh glare of the overheads. When we are towing I unplug the lamps and put them in a cabinet, so they don't break.

      Homey feelings are the reason many of us like RV'ing. Especially on a rainy night. being all warm and dry inside with pleasant lighting is really relaxing!

    All of the items on your list make for a great life in a camper. All of these entered into my justification for buying and enjoying my trailer. Add to that the ability to bring my Harley along for enjoyment during our stay (yes, I have a toy hauler).

    This "in between" time of year we have a lovely fireplace-look heater that makes it comfortable and homey as we relax in the evening. If it really gets cold the furnace clicks on.

    Removed a couch that converts to a bed (which I would never use) and put a wall-hugger recliner and a side table in that space. I can kick back in front of the TV and take a little nap. All the comforts of home, and it is my home.

      What a great idea. Thanx I think we might check into doing the same. Our sofabed is not only never used as a bed, it's not that comfy to sit & watch TV.

      Agree completely. Some of the "less then quality" furniture that comes as standard issue in many RVs can be replaced for much greater comfort & quality. We have done so with several pieces of furniture & storage cabinets. A great improvement. Just do it. You'll love the change.

    I guess I enjoy living in the 90s... my 1990 Chinook has 'string lights" like my company installed beginning in the 70 we used string lights along ceilings. So to turn them on now in my chinook make just a warm glow all over. They are incandescent so they use power, but I only use them while plugged into 110v or engine running.

      I've seen them in LED in the correct color temperature (3200 or so) You can have your cake and eat it too!

    Lol, surprise RHPS. I got a sheet of lighting gel to diffuse the bright LED's in my motorhome. It makes an amazing difference. I just cut up the gel and slipped the pieces right into the light fixture.
